Playground Exercises for Grownups

Do you remember playing kick-the-can from just after dinner, until way past dark? Remember when you could sit cross-legged on the floor and play for hours? Remember a time when you didn’t want to go to bed?

Adults have forgotten how to have fun…how to move, and laugh…
how to challenge their bodies and enjoy it!

But the children remember.

FUNDAMENTAL FITNESS brings the FUN back into exercise. By watching the natural movements of children…throwing, jumping, skipping, balancing we are reminded that "PLAY” uses movements instead of specific muscles, to do the job. (crawling like a child invokes memories of youth, AND works the entire body, especially the shoulders and core).

Fitness Can Be Fun!

For most of us, it was easier to stay fit when we were young
…we just didn’t have to think about it.
And when we stopped moving like children, things changed.
FUNdamental Fitness brings functional play into the workouts,
bringing us the results that we want!

Jen Hoeft tells the story behind writing of 'FUNdamental Fitness':

I was on an airplane heading West to teach a fitness/drumming workshop and the lady next to me asked what I did for a living. I told her I was a personal trainer and she said “oh man I need you! I want to exercise but I’m scared I’ll hurt myself…I don’t know what to do when I get to the gym and I am intimidated…I want to get in shape, but I need help!”

We discussed her lifestyle, eating habits, movement choices and after about 30 minutes we had an easy plan that SHE COULD UNDERSTAND AND USE!

After hearing this same story dozens of times, I was compelled to put together a basic, easy-to-understand-and-remember program in a book/workbook format that people will feel good about using!

I wanted to be able to hand people that were confused, frustrated or daunted, a PLAN OF ACTION for the movement portion of their life.

FUNdamentalFitness: Playground Exercises for Grownups offers a functional blend of strength/length and JOY training for the beginners and the advanced exercisers.

If you truly have the desire to feel better…you are half way there. Find your reasons why you want to improve your body. Write them down. Be very specific…emotionally specific (ie…I want to dance for hours without tiring, I want to play hide and seek with my children/grandchildren).

  • Get in touch with your reasons for wanting to feel better.
  • What would you do if you felt better?
  • Where is “feeling good” on your priority list?

Do you have 12, 24, or sometimes 36 minutes a day?

FUNdamental Fitness, (if you use it!), offers beginner moves with advanced options. Read 3 lines of explanation, look at the simple-to-follow picture, and do it. Go through the book and find the movements that feel good. Circle them in the workbook and your blueprint for a total body workout has begun.

Why are these movements different?

Well…half of them are and half of them aren’t. You will recognize many standard exercises blended with movements that mimic the natural movements of children. This combination taps into your muscle memory of childhood, and reminds the body, the brain, the cells, that YOU ARE YOUNGER THAN YOU ARE!

This JOY, makes the work FUN…makes you want to do it again tomorrow…and it ignites the metabolism, allowing for the most efficient use of your time and energy.

By tapping into the body with this sequence of strength, length and cardio, the entire chain of FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT is stimulated, challenged, and fatigued…in a GOOD way!

  • Be your own personal trainer
  • Create your own workout
  • Empower yourself to advance at your own pace
  • Inspire yourself
  • Commit to a functional program and feel your life improve

Become aware of the movements of children…use this awareness to ignite your inner child and your inner trainer

NO MORE…

  • I don’t know what to do
  • I feel limited
  • I am stuck
  • I hate to exercise
  • I hate the gym

Take the 12, 24 or 46 minutes a day to do this circuit.

Create a space of fun, joy-filled youth-inspired movement, and MOVE your whole body into where you want it to be.

In a well organized and easy to understand fashion she explores our primary natural physical movements of sitting, pushing, pulling, pressing, and curling to strengthen and develop the body.
